I have been amazed by the requests we have had recently for used computers. We have been selling many Dell Optiplex computers to kindergartens, offices, home users and students. The market for Windowx XP machines is still going strong and many people have still not made the transition to Windows 7 (hopefully most of you have bypassed Vista, ugh).

All of the computers we have in our office at SysQuick that we use on a daily basis are Windows XP Pro and they are all running strong and have not had any issues by refusing to upgrade our systems to Windows 7. Don’t get me wrong, Windows 7 is a good operating system but upgrading to Windows 7 from XP is not an easy task. To do it properly you need to backup the XP system, format the drive and install a fresh copy of Windows 7. On most newer PC’s you can install Windows 7 and get the proper drivers (small programs that tell Windows what the hardware is inside of the computer and allows the system to use them – sound card, network card, video card, etc…).

So if you are in need of an XP computer we have some in stock at SysQuick. If you need a large quantity for an office or school, we can accommodate.

Have a great night!

–> Bill

Today was quite a long day!

We were working at a renovated textile factory in Baltimore that has been converted to offices and has very high ceilings. The job today was to run cabling, repair some faulty connections and test everything before we leave.

We got most of the job done and will go back Friday or Saturday to finish it up.

While we were there we spoke to a property management company and they will need some tech support, security cameras and motion sensors for properties they are renovating. There is also a rehab center that will need some PC’s, IT services and hopefully we will help them at their second location.

It was a tiring day but a job well done. we are always happy when things go well and the clients are satisfied…. whats the point of working if you do not enjoy what you do, help others and feel like you have accomplished something at the end of the day.

Have a great nigh and we look to seeing you soon!

These past 2 weeks were quite busy with power supply replacements at SysQuick.

We had a PC at a private lender in Dundalk that had one go up and luckily nothing else. They did not have a backup system in place and could have lost a lot of financial data.

There was an auto repair facility in Middle River that shut their PC off for the first time in 3 months and would not turn back on. It was what they used for their accounting and printing checks. They had their backup through Carbonite (which we sell) but their system was fixed with a new power supply.

We had a custom PC that was built for gaming and the power cords melted because they had a cheap power supply (just because it has a high wattage rating does not mean it is a quality part). always buy name brand PC parts whenever possible. They have a longer life, better warranty and can easily be replaced if needed. We like Thermaltake, Cooler Master, Corsair and Antec (to name a few good brands). You will need to upgrade a power supply to a higher wattage if you add a new videocard or multiple drives… also gaming RAM.

We have a PC in the shop now that has a bad power supply and is heavily infected…. they got a double whammy! Fortunately we have it under control and it will be done soon.

There were a few others and these are a few highlights.

Need a PC upgrade? PC acting funny or slow… SysQuick can help….. Call 443-231-5627 today!

We just received a confirmation that we will be installing a WiFi system st a local hotel in the Baltimore/Rosedale area on Pulaski Hwy.

We put the bid in a few months ago and have not heard from them for a little while and just got the call today to do the installation.

SysQuick will be installing a router and multiple access points throughout the motel in order to expand the signal to all of the rooms at the motel.

Tentatively we will be doing the install Thursday of next week and we will try to post some photos from the install.

Have a great day!

Family Communications Plan: Write down critical cell and landline numbers in case your phone dies; know where you will meet if cell towers and landline phones go out; designate an out-of-area relative everyone should contact if they can’t reach each other.

Cell phones:Text messages use less battery and get through when calls can’t; external batteries are available to keep your cell phone powered when the internal battery dies; pack your car charger and home charger if you evacuate; extend your battery by turning off wi-fi and other services you aren’t using.

Computers: Back up critical data onto external hard drives, thumb drives, or online services; if you have to evacuate take critical equipment with you or seal it in garbage bags to protect against water damage.

Water: Buy water or fill pots and pitchers with drinking water – 1 gallon per day per person; water systems may be contaminated and unsafe for drinking.

Food: Keep non-perishable food you don’t have to cook.

Cash: Credit cards won’t work if power and communications go down. Withdraw $ 200 – $ 300 so you can make purchases.

Automobile: Fill your gas tank; gas pumps won’t work if power fails.

Evacuation: Have a backpack or overnight bag with clothes, medications, sweatshirt and sweatpants; extra glasses, personal hygiene supplies; energy bars; emergency blankets; follow instructions to shut off water, gas, and electricity before you leave.

Hand-crank weather radio: These can also charge cell phones through a USB cable. Purchase one at Lowes, Home Depot, Sam’s, Costco, or Wal-mart. Make sure the radio has SAME alerting so you will only receive alerts for your local area.

Batteries: For flashlights, lanterns, radios.

LED lanterns: No need for fuel or mantles; safer than candles; some lanterns come with removable LED flashlights.

Common Sense: Evacuate if your local government issues an order; don’t drive through flooded streets; stay away from downed wires.

Don’t panic: Keep your cool for your own safety and your family’s safety.
